Do you follow your Own Advice?

This is something I’m very guilty of. I always find myself giving advice to friends and family but I fail to follow that advice myself.

I read an article a few years ago about things successful people do every day. The one thing that stuck out to me was that they write down everything they plan to do the next day. I’ve implemented it in my life a few times, but I’ve never stuck to it.

My nephews live with me (17 and 18 yo male teenagers) and I bought them both two military grade notebooks that can survive in any weather without getting ruined... I know how destructive they can be.

Anyway, I told them to write down everything they needed to do each day before they go to bed. It was surprisingly effective. They’re grades actually improved because before they would leave school for the day, they would look at their notepad and remember an assignment they forgot about.

They both tend to be absent-minded so it helped with their memory and organizational skills,
One of them told me that notebook saved their grade.

I have the same notebook and I only use it to jot down a few important things during staff meetings but I barely look at it. Someone at work told about a daily “to do” list she had showed me some photocopies of a sheet, it said; “things to do today”.

I took it home and put it on my computer desk so I would use it. That was a week ago and those pages are still blank. I know the stuff I want to complete in my head, but why won’t I take the time to write it down?

I haven’t been on my computer lately, most of my posts come from my iPad and I still won’t go into virtual notes to make a list.

On the bright side, I may not write a personal task down, but if I make a commitment to accomplish it, it’ll get done, with the exception of making a list.

I’m a cook by trade. One of the things I’ve been wanting to do, is create a weekly menu for my house, so I can buy exactly what I need before I go grocery shopping and cook different items each day. This will save me a ton of money because I won’t buy unnecessary items.

Have I made that list yet? Nope. I’ll grow out of it eventually and make those daily lists.

What advice do you give others that you wish you followed yourself?

Very true Ibrahim.

Keeping a to do list but not only that, a list of pending task is very important.

This ensures you are more organized. We tend to keep a to do list but in this list there are tasks that we don't accomplish so these task can make up the pending tasks list.

We all come from different professional background and the way we manage our self, determines who we are within our organization.

Whenever I step out of my office to do my routine rounds, I make sure I take my pocket-size note book with me. There may be queries and or issues that requires me to address.

If its something where I can resolve on the spot, I do so. However its an issues or query that requires more time, I take note of it on the pocket-size notebook. Quite handy.

So we accomplish our to do list depends on how we manage our time and organized we are.

Other wise a very good post.

Cheers!
Jasper

I have always wanted to write a book about Procrastination, but I keep putting it off.
On a more serious note, my wife plans a weekly menu, and makes a list for the weekly shop to make sure she has what she needs. It really works well for us.
Good luck with getting into the routine of making the "To do" list it really helps.
Cheers

I know that's an old joke but it still made me chuckle!

thanks

Slow down and relax.

Oh not in my nature.

Lily 😂

I understand what you are saying.

As far as me, I highly recommend to people that they focus on one website until they get it profitable. Yet no matter hard try, I have yet to be able to do it myself. I joke that I am the poster child of what not to do.

Best wishes on making that list.

Hello and thanks for sharing your thoughts here today.
Those who set goals and write them out have proven to be more effective. I have seen the same in my life.
Keep going you are doing well.
All the best to you and have a great week.
Darren :)
