I have put a post on my home page, but when I go to view it, only the first paragraph is showing and there is note saying 'Read more...' which you have to click on to read more

I agree, it's better to have an excerpt of the Post on the homepage as opposed to showing the full Post.

As you begin adding more Posts, these will be assigned to the homepage as well which will show a long list of article after article - this never looks good in my opinion.

But for future reference, you can edit this within your Theme Options.

This may be under Appearance > Theme Options or you may notice Theme Options directly on your wordpress dashboard (each theme is different).

Look for 'Blog Settings' after locating your theme options and you should be able to edit it from there.

OR stop by Settings > Reading from the wordpress dashboard. You will have the option of choosing 'Show full text' or a 'Summary' from there.

Thanks Jason, so do any new posts appear directly underneath your first post?

It should go in order from Newest to Older Posts. Newly published ones will appear up top.

If you wanted to keep that post there as an introduction to your site, is it better then to create a blog page where you can put your new posts.

Yes, if you wanted to make that your featured post on the homepage, you can create a separate Blog Page and assign your "blog roll" or new posts to it.

Let me know if you need help setting that up!

Thanks Jason, I will keep that in mind; it's good to have that option.

It's better to have the read more because your homepage will look clutter once you have more posts if you change to full text.

Thanks Juneyo for the quick reply, I'm glad I asked about it.

You're welcome =)
