What Makes You Trust a Website?

What makes you trust any website you visit? There are several answers, but the most commons answers to not trust a website are:

  • Too many ads
  • Little or no original content.
  • Too much design and too little content.
  • No clear indication about the purpose of the site.
  • No comments allowed.
  • Looks spammy.

We have to see trust as an asset, a value that a business or a organization has, based on what others think of it.

Trust is something that you can build with quality design and content, images, referrals, reputation, track records, comments, etc

But the most important to build trust is to engage people: you should reveal yourself as a person. It is essential to show that your website is made for you, as a person, who have likes, dislikes, opinions, and feelings.

So, it’s important that you give details about yourself, what you like to do, what inspires you, what makes you happy, to provide contact points where readers can connect with you.

My readers know that I’m a mom, I have two kids and I hate my job. Probably I engage some of my visitors through these contact points.

And don’t worry about revealing yourself in the internet, because you can reveal a lot without crossing the line into subjects as religion or politics and without endangering your privacy (for example, names of family members or other private details).

Very good points Alex! My "about me" pages tend to be really short and don't give details about myself. This post inspired me to update and add more information to "about me" page!

Yes, you have to talk about yourself to engage people, what do you do, what do you like or dislike, what do you feel about something! You have to be real! That's the best way to build trust!
Alex

These are very good points. Thank you very much.

Thanks!

I wonder if youll engage your boss if he/she reads your page. Lol. Another very informative post. I like reading your posts.

Hi Bryan, thank you so much!
Maybe it is time to change my profile... LOL or my photo...
Thanks :)
Alex

Trust does take time to build up and we can reveal some stuff without revealing too much as you said

I dont think I could work at a bank if I hated it. I would get too tempted to run off with the loot and quit..lol. Nice post here:)

Thank you! I'm a lawer so I can't put my hands on the loot! LOL

Ooooh a lawyer. Nice....lawyers usually have money so they dont need to run off with the cash...

Yeah, but that's not my case! If it works... well... let me think about it... LOL

Wouldnt want to be a bad influence...lol

I can split... LOL

Lol. You're funny...

Good advice.

Hi Mister Wailor! Thank you!

Great advice and I think you are right on! I need to do some more updates and possibly include some of your suggestions.
Sheila

Hi Sheila! Thank you. Just add some contact points, not personal stuff, where visitors can connect with you!
Alex

Good advice. I often look at the "About Me" page first. I know - it sounds awful but I want to get the feel of the person and if they are genuine. If they have a lot of ads....I'm outta there. Nice post. ~Debbi

Hi Debbie! Thank you for reading my post! I use to do the same. I think I feel more comfortable when I read the profile of the real person!
Thanks
Alex

Yes, Today's readers are smart, if they find that the contents are shallow and serve no value, they will leave straight away. Regards Sadie

Hi Sadie! Thank you for reading my blog! That's true, you have to give something personal to your website to engage visitors.
Thanks
Alex
