Is it better to blog than share your posts from your site?

I was reading some really interesting articles about blogging last night, because I haven't really been to the blogging platforms. I'm still confused though about my posts to the website that run on my homepage as a blog. How is that different from posting in a blog? If it's both blogging, why couldn't you just start a blog by sharing your posts in that platform? Also, are groups considered blogs?

From my understanding, the website is a blog. You can choose to post just blog post and categorize them OR you can write blogs and have pages of content. I know it is still confusing, but if you continue to go through the training, it will start to make sense! In Course 2, there is a session on the difference between blog posts and pages that really helped me!
i'm almost through course 4 and I'm still confused. I write my posts and submit them under my pages which are also categorized. But when I was trying to make sure I had pages of content, they told me I needed to be writing more posts. and my posts needed to be as long as my pages. well its killing me to keep up with that much research and that much writing along with all the sharing and networking. So what is the most important i guess is what i need to know. I mean, now that i'm on alot of the professional social sites, they are asking what am i selling from my website and what is my service. Well heck, I've been told just to make sure i keep putting content (articles) on there, and not to put but maybe 4 or 5 affiliate links. So, now my site has turned into mainly an information resource but people arent going there to buy anything. So i'm wondering if i would do better to start like an ads page for the niche im in on my website? In order to bring my traffic straight to a page to list services and if they also want information then they can explore through it. Or should i start a blog that is a services page that people list what they offer or what they need? or can I even do that?
