Unconcealing the Truth

First of all, I am using a British word which I think accepted by many of us, the word unconcealing.

Many of you know my real name but some do not know so I am unconcealing it now.

What you see is my username: Accad-the truth is that's my middle name.

My name and surname are a combination of both bad words. Well that's according to the dictionary.

A Bad Name

Jimmy-is defined as a burglar's tool.

Dolo-is a Spanish word which means 'fraud'

From the Pearl of the Orient Seas (Philippines)

I'm a Filipino and I belong to the indigenous group. We have our own dialect which is called 'Kankanaey'. I learned other dialects such as 'Ilocano', then our national language, the Tagalog which I just learned it lately because I have to use it in the community I'm exposed to. English is my second language and I speak and pronounce it with difficulty. I wish I could show you a video so you will understand who I am.

There was a time that the people of different ethnic groups described us as uncivilized, without respect and some words that are denegrating. Maybe because we come from a secluded place and we lack exposures. But I know in my heart, we know in ourselves that we are a people and we love and respect each one's dignity.

Culturally Hospitable

When I was young, when visitors from the lowland come to our home, we know them not, but we accomodate them. If it happen during lunch time we eat together as long as they like our food. There were times they sleep with us because of time constraint and they cannot go home after selling their own goods.

We call each one according to our name. I remember there was a time I called by name my father but I have a great respect of him.

There were times when we go to the town we walk in pile along the road, why? Because we were trained to walk over trails for how many years.

How Do I sound?

If you find my English somewhat irritating please understand me, I was not born in the English speaking nations. We learn Egnlish language and sometimes it's confusing.

When I write here in WA, I write what I think and the way I speak when I talk to someone using English language.

When you speak my language I'll understand your wrong grammar, I will correct them in my mind and accept what you are saying. That's the reason why I approve grammatically wrong comments.

I think this is enough to unconceal what's in me and you my friends will understand the way I talk here, the way I write here and communicate with you as my brothers and sisters in the Lord.

Each of us are created unique if you believe that idea.

Thank you!

You are indeed unique, as are we all. That is one of the beautiful things about us...we all are special, because there is no one else like us.

Thanks for sharing a little bit of your background. Now I feel that I know you a little better.

Thanks, Fran. You know me now so you can interpret what I say in the way you understand who I am.

Well said, Jimmy. My wife is an immigrant from the Caribbean. (legal and obtained her Citizenship in ‘96) married sixteen years. She has no accent. Except when she gets mad at her husband. Then it comes out REALLY clear... I still understand. Not the words, but the emotion behind the words!

That’s one of the few things in my life that I can honestly say that I got in the right order. Meaning that we met, we dated, we got married and then had children with no “testing of the waters” prior to coming together in Matrimony. So my household is pretty much multicultural.

I don’t know half of what my Mother-in-Law says. She has a very thick Trini accent and uses poor grammar and euphemisms from Trinidad that don’t resonate with me like they do my wife. She of course, provides clarity and meaning. Then, I’m like, “...Ooohh... that’s what she meant.” We all get a good laugh!

I think I know what you mean too. Very well spoken. Very well said! I’m glad that you a part of the WA Community too!

Have a great day, Sir! And all who read his blog.

Travis

Thanks, Travis. I was smiling as I read your comment. Were you not irritated by the situation, or did you not get mad of anyone?

I think you love your wife and your love their ethnic group too.

I gotta tell you that I am a proud member of the Black Community by way of marriage. That's part of her charm.

Her family is amazing! They have accepted me as one of their own. My family has done the same for her. She has been fully accepted as well.

I am a truly Blessed Man!

Have a good day.

Well, well! That's what marriage is all about, an unconditional union of both parties.

Thanks for revealing more of your background Jimmy. A great part of this community is the willingness to communicate the best way we can without getting all worried about grammar.
Ray

Thanks, Ray. I do worry with grammar and that takes me a long time to write. Thanks to Grammarly although sometimes it changes the thought and I have to ignore it.
There are times I write frankly, directly, or straight forward and others are hurting which I apologize that I don't mean it.

No need to apologize Jimmy. I was born and raised speaking English and I still get things wrong. Write from your heart and you will do well.
Ray

Thanks for the encouragement, Ray. I appreciate it.

I agree with the comments below and thanks for sharing

Thanks, Dave. I hope it means and speaks that way.

It does

Hi Jimmy, for someone who's second language is English your writing technique is immaculate.

Thanks for sharing and good luck here at WA!

Cal

Thanks, Cal. I hope it conveys the message to everyone.

はじめましてジミーさん!
(Nice to meet you, Jimmy!)

It's always nice to see how many people from around the world end up here :) I think it really gives an honest multicultural feel when chatting with the community.

Best of luck to you!
Tyson

Thanks, Tyson. Yes, we can learn to adjust culturally and psychologically.

Thanks for sharing, Jimmy. 🙂

Thanks, Glen. I hope you can understand me more.

Jimmy,

You are just Jimmy my Pinoy brother so no worries there.

We will drink a few non alcoholic san Miguel together when my wife and i will visit the Phils, but you have to come to Sto. Tomas in Pamapanga.

Deal?

Blessings!

Thanks. You can come to Laguna, visit Pagsanjan, Luisiana, and Lucban and let's drink lambanog, lol.

Jimmy,

Soft drinks only, right out of the plastic bag.

Blessings!

Good, I cannot indulge in hard drinks. I can just have a taste of it once in a blue moon.

Jimmy,

careful there, we have a beer here called Blue Moon...

Blessings!

Hahaha, what a unique name for drinks, only now that I heard that.

Hi there (I am not sure whether to address you as Jimmy or Accad now :-) I have to say though, I'd never thought of the name Jimmy the way you have explained it here.

Very well written - thank you for sharing this interesting blog.

It just goes to show that Juliet was quite right in Shakespeare's play, have a look at how it is addressed in Quora: https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-meaning-of-phrase-What-is-in-a-name-by-Shakespeare

Thank you for being the hospitable and accepting man you are.

Blessings
Louise

Thanks, Louise. The name is just an identification of the outward part of the human being but it cannot change the real essence of "me", the real "you".

Exactly - you would still smell like a rose, lol!
So, should we call you Jimmy then?

Yes, Lousie, that's my name given by my grandmother. That should have been James but she cannot pronounce well when she was interviewed, lol.

Jimmy is in the USA a nickname for James and since religious discussions are not allowed I'll leave it at that.

What a name used to be or mean is only important if WE give it meaning.

Words convey stories or are used in stories. To me, if I don't like the story I'll change it into a positive or more empowering story.

Salamat kaayo for sharing Sir Jimmy!

Mel

Thanks, Mel. Yes, a name is a name and a single one means a lot. It came to my senses that a single name can be for a human person, can be for things, and can be for animals.
Whatever that name is, the real meaning is dependent on whose name and it should not be defined by anyone.
