Forms of Writing

My father in law is a retired professor of the University of the Philippines, Los Banos, Laguna. During his active years he was teaching English among others.

I happen to have a conversation with him as he was editing a paper this week and I happen to ask a question with regards to the use of words like "would not" contracted as "wouldn't', "do not" contracted as "don't", and many others.

The response was, "these are forms of writing" and he enumerated three and they are as follow:

1) Technical Writing—this is the form of writing that employs the full two words.

2) Formal Writing—is much closer to technical writing especially in academic ventures

3) Conversational—is the daily conversation styles understood by the group or certain locality and thus use the contracted words.

Is there a nation particularly inclined with which of the three ways of conversing and writing?

Not so many people are aware of the distinctions when it comes to these contractions these days. I think on my pages I often use wouldn't doesn't and don't to appeal to the conversational style we adopt with respect to conversions. However if it is a technical authoritative article the contraction less form would be better.
In the UK we tend to use the perfect tenses more than in the US and the contractions follow the same rule.

Thank you Mark for enlightening us. The whole world is everyone's parish and adaptability and flexibility are not options and choices, it's an inherent human development.

We need to communicate to each other, this makes life easier and lighter.

Great article about writing.
