Great day today...

I moved my site onto my own domain, did some customisation on the theme, registered the site on Google Search Console and continued with the training - 25 of 28 lessons done on Level 1 of the Entrpreneur Certification.

I am super impressed with the technical side of things here - migrating my site and getting FTP access was quick, slick and incredibly efficient.

Thanks to everyone who asnwered by questions and welcomed me today - I really appreciate the response and desire to help from everyone.

That's me for today,

Cheers,

Martin

Hi Martin,

Glad you had such a great day!

I have multiple sites elsewhere and thinking of moving them to WA. Perhaps you can PM me with instructions on how you made your move? Or... are the instructions in my future lessons ( I'm on Lesson 7 of Level 1)?

Wishing you much success,
James

Hi James,

The site I moved was a free WA site (wpsecuritybasics.siterubix.com) which I moved onto my own domain (wpsecuritybasics.com) that I registered outside of WA. The new site is hosted on WA, so the site move itself was between two WA hosted websites. But because I registered the domain outside of WA I went through the extra step of editing my DNS settings to point my domain to the WA server.

As you know, you can register your own domain *within* WA, and if you do that you don't need to worry about the DNS settings.

To move a site that's *already* hosted on WA and you register your domain through WA:

In your Site Manager there is a 'Move' button second from the right at the bottom of the window showing your site details. If you click that it will take you through the process - it's very straightforward, and will be completed following the step by step actions that they lead you through.

If you are moving the site that's already hosted in WA onto a domain that you've registered *outside* of WA (e.g. on GoDaddy or somewhere like that) you wlil need to edit the DNS settings in your account with the domain registrar..

To move a site *hosted outside* of WA (e.g. Hostgator, Bluehost etc) on to WA hosting:

If you want to move a site hosted elsewhere (e.g. Siteground, Hostgator, etc.) on to WA hosting that's also a straightforward process but I don't know if it's described in WA.

Basically what you need to do is:

- Set up a hosting account on WA

- Set up a new database in your new WA hosting account

- Take a backup of the site files on your current host and save it on your computer

- Export a copy of your existing database and save it on your computer

Then you need to:

- Upload the site files from your computer to your new WA hosting account via FTP

- Import the database (done through the control panel of your new hosting account)

- Edit the WordPress wp-config.php file to link your site to the new database

- Edit the DNS records for your domain on the domain registrar with which you registered it. The WA DNS records are set out at the bottom of the Site Domains page.

If that all sounds like gobbledy gook then I recommend you raise a support ticket (unless there are instructions already set out in WA, but I don't know whether or not there are).

Let me know if I need to clarify anything..!

Cheers,

Martin.

Thank you, Martin, for all of your help! :)

I have actually moved WordPress sites between hosts using the All-in-One WP Migration plugin. It's very easy to use.

What I have yet to discover is where to find WA's DNS URLs. I have a half-dozen domains at an "outside" Registrar. I am still considering whether to lose my existing host's fee by migrating those sites to WA. It is not a simple decision.

James

Hi James,

WA's DNS settings are on the bottom of the Domain Screen, but for ease here they are:

ns1.mywahosting.com
ns2.mywahosting.com

Cheers,

Martin.
