Meanwhile In Indoneisa

So far I have been here in Depok, Indonesia "Jakarta" for about 2 weeks now, almost 3 weeks. I have encountered issues with using my phone, WiFi, how to get around and where to go to among others. On the other hand I have met wonderful people, made new friends, "belajar bahasa Indonesia" learn how to speak more Indonesian, And most of all Spend Valuable time with my wife!!

A few days after arriving in Jakarta My neigbour invited me to come over for "Kopi" that's coffee! and I accepted, even tho I stopped drinking coffee and switched to tea, but hey, I can't be rude. One of the best decisions I have made! I not only made a new friend, but turns out my neigbour "Yudie" not only fixes personal and commercial coffee machines, but his business partner sells the machines and knows all about building websites through WordPress!

I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to network and get out there to meet some business owners and local coffee shops! I went with them, to a few coffee shops and restaurants to get a good idea how the locals do food and coffee! Turns out the Indonesian's love their coffee and know a lot about the roasting process and different beans. There is a special coffee here that is partially produced with the help of a "LUWAK" that is a big wild type of cat which is in the "Civet" family. There is even a coffee called "KOPI LUWAK" in which the Luwak eats the coffee cherries and poop's them out
afterwards roasting the beans and voila! one of the world's most expensive coffee!

So far I have been to and met the owners of 2 coffee shops and one big restaurant in which I put him in one of my blog's www.worktonotwork.com/lets-go-to-indonesia! the name of the restaurant is called Teras Koering which loosely translates to "my place" or "my restaurant". The owner was really nice and the restaurant is open 24hrs a day! So after meeting my new friend Yudie and his friends and family I am starting to think about creating a new blog post about Local Coffee shops here in Indonesia. There are so many! and Yudie knows a ton of them so he can take me to them and I will write about the experiences I have while im there. Not to mention the FREE coffee is a bonus! Even tho I switched to Tea, I might need to give coffee another chance. LOL!!!

There are some drawbacks to being in a foreign country and not being familiar with the local foods available at the market. I am accustom to certain fruits and foods that are NOT easy to find here. For example, Blueberries, Blackberries, Strawberries, Etc...... These are difficult to find in my area. I had to travel to South Jakarta to buy them at the more MODERN Grocery store. I need to learn how to cook with the food sold here, or learn how to cook Indonesian food "which is Awesome".

Also, there is the language barrier. My wife is fluent in speaking Indonesian, but I myself am not. LOL! however, I am learning, not by my wife like most everyone thinks, but I am actually teaching myself and my new friend Yudie is helping me. It's not because my Wife doesn't want to teach me, but rather she has no time to teach me. It definitely takes time to sit down and learn or teach. The language is not completely hard to learn, and I say this mostly because it follows the English alphabet. The most confusing part about learning Indonesian is there is no past, or present tense.

Each day I try to learn something new, and each day I try to speak a little more Indonesian to my wife, friends here, and locals. This way I feel more comfortable speaking and interacting with people around me. Now I said I was moving here, If you read my profile you would know this, and if not then you know this now. LOL!! Here is the thing with moving to Indonesia, It is NOT an easy task! I am currently here on a social visa which I can extend for up to a combined stay of 6 months. Now in order to actually live here I need the appropriate visa. The KITAS visa. This will allow me to live here for I believe up to 5 years. After, the 5 years is up I have an option to become an Indonesian Citizen. Not sure if I want to do that. Still thinking about it. Perhaps my wife and I decide to move to America and live together there? "Preferably after the POTUS is NO LONGER in office" That guy doesn't take kindly to MUSLIMS. BUT I DO!!

Well, there is much more time to spend here in Indonesia! and much more to update my WA friends about, so when you see one of my post's be sure to read it and give it a like. Also, if you have read down this far you are an amazing person and I am grateful to know you here on WA! and if I don't know you yet, send me a friend request I will be happy to accept!

Here are a few pictures of the 2 coffee houses I went too. And one more thing I want to mention!! I made a new friend in the form of a feline! his name is Manggis!!

I found him on the street hungry and crying. I took him in and fed him bought him all the necessary kitty items and will be taking him to the Vet soon for his shots.

Thank you all. I will keep you updated as time moves on.

Impressed by your culture Aaron. Learning Dutch for Indonesia is half the battle!

It all sounds amazing! Lucky you getting a chance to live in another culture and learn the language. Wishing you much happiness as you navigate your new surroundings.
