I got a little too eager, created a website, and still haven't picked a niche. Ahhhh help!
That's a little confusing. All I thought was to have my site immediately together with my domain name. And so I did it only to come in senses that they are not the niche I should pursue.
My experience as of now advice me to say this to you, that a website and a domain is no other than the niche. Don't rush think it over and over again and if you are decided on which niche you are building as your business for a long time then that would be your site or domain name.
I hope this can give you a picture. Am sure others will give their opinion too.

I just signed up with Amazon to be an affiliate but I don't even know how to get started really. I don't have a website yet either!
I have been an Amazon Affiliate since about 2008. The clock has already started on you. You have a time limit to make a sale or Amazon will drop you. I have purchased many items from Wealthy Affiliate members to keep them from being dropped. It is BAD to get ahead of your training.
Now you need to get a site up or make a sale somehow... FaceBook is a good place.
1. Pick A niche.
2. Get your site up.
3. Make a sale or PM me and I will buy something from you.
There are several members here who actually make sales. USE them as a mentor. Look for people who have been here for more than one year who rarely post. They are usually making income. I recommend Marion Black or Tommy Hamilton.
I've been an Amazon affiliate for a long time - you might want to start off with something more like Clickbank because Amazon products are mainly physical rather than digital which means lower conversion rates, and it also has very low commissions (4-8%) as opposed to Clickbank which pays commissions up to 75%.
