Are You A Procrastinator - If So Welcome To My World.

Wikipedia describes procrastination as:

"Procrastination is the avoidance of doing a task that needs to be accomplished by a certain deadline. It could be further stated as a habitual or intentional of starting or finishing a task despite knowing it might have negative consequences. It is a common human experience involving delay in everyday chores or even putting off salient tasks such as attending an appointment, submitting a job report or academic assignment, or broaching a stressful issue with a partner. "

I have always had an issue of putting off difficult tasks or awkward conversations whether in person or by telephone and still do to this day.

This is not laziness it is pure and simple procrastination because we want to avoid any kind of conflict or anything that is out of our comfort zone.

If there is something that needs to be done but I feel uncomfortable doing it I will do anything else just to keep busy or appear busy until such a time as it cannot be avoided and then I just get stuck in and do it.

So why don't I just do it and get it over with in the first place.

I now make a determined effort to "Eat That Frog" as Brian Tracy teaches and I will put everything in the diary or on Google calendar and will put the difficult things first and then the day will be calmer and less stress for the rest of the "To Do" list.

I dont always succeed and still sometimes do procrastinate but I am getting better.

I believe we all get done at one point or another caught up in procrastination. It's perfectly normal not to always be fresh to get started in the job. The important thing is to get back on the train as quickly as possible so that procrastination does not turn into laziness.

Ingrid

Thanks Ingrid, appreciate your comments.

Andy.

I know how you feel with this Andy. I have to say that I am getting better at shaking myself out of it, but there are still times when it gets the better of me.
My wife is good at spotting it and gives me a nudge.... don't know what I would do without her.
Take care
Gaz

Yes I often get a nudge from my better half too, she knows when I am being busy doing nothing!!

I wrote 2 articles on Procrastination and there is a cure for it :) If the things you do make you high or extremely happy, there is really no reason for you to procrastinate.

The cure is to trick or condition the mind that the task you are doing really makes you very happy.

Marc.

Hi Marc,

Thank you very much for taking the time out to comment.

Your “Cure” sounds very plausible and I am sure would work in the majority of procrastination cases.

I think I would call it more “Managing” procrastination than curing it as I see a cure as being infinite and you will never suffer procrastination again.

Also what brought me to write about procrastination was an instance recently where I “put off” a decision to turn off a family members life support and I don’t think I could have persuaded myself that doing that would make me extremely happy.

I will however try your solution in more everyday procrastinating.

Thanks again.

Have a great weekend .

Andy.

I can message you the link to the video if you are interested. It is a product from Clickbank. :)

Thank you.
