Writer Prompts - Do You Use Them?
While replying to a post, the header image was striking. I thought to myself, hmmm, how did they find that picture that related to their post?
Then, it dawned on me, what if I see an image that provides the topic of what to write, and instantly I could see in my minds eye, the image and resulting topic content.
The next article I write for my blog will be image sourced then written.
I have found that prompt writing is very effective when you're not sure what to write about.
Do you use any prompts when you write?
If so, what are they?
Just for fun, in your reply, write your response, and/or wrote a short paragraph using these 3 words as a prompt. Come on, have fun...grin.

As I rolled over and looked at the clock, I realised that I was already late. The book I'd been reading the night before lay sprawled on the floor next to my slippers. Dragging myself out of bed, I took a quick shower, dressed and grabbed my keys and purse as I made my way out the door.
Love this idea Rudy! Great for prompting writing ideas and practicing too!
Maria
You had me at rolled over...lol. who hasn't done that, I've dropped many a book, too.
Yes, I hope this helps when you're lacking for content, to write down three words and write a little story. About anything!!
Thanks for the story, Maria!
Rudy
The clock on the wall is a measure of the immeasurable in my book. Funny how the immeasurable thing called time is finite and we all try to find the keys to our lives in that finite resource before we are no longer a part of this grand venture!
Well done, Rudy!
Jeff
Well done, youreself!! There's a term for it, which escapes me at this writing, and I really enjoyed the immeasurable time reference...
Thanks, Jeff!
Rudy
Ha ha! Thanks, Rudy! I can't think of it right off the top of my head right now either!
Jeff😂
The sound of the clock was in tune to the heavy beating of my heart.
I could smell his dry musty odour as he scuffled around in the basement to find me
I clutched the book that I found hidden in a private drawer.
I know I shouldn't have taken his key to open that drawer, but I have been curious for weeks.
I had to know what he was hiding
I know I'm a bit rusty. This was my favourite type of writing. I hope this is what you're looking for.
Oh...very nice, captivating, even, 'heavens to murgatroyd!
You got a little creative writing monster inside there, eh, Simone??...😎
Why did you take the key...?
Rudy
Lol
That's my favourite style of writing, Rudy. It is a passion of mine.
I also use this when I am teaching creative writing to my students.
Curiosity is the reason I took the key
It is the same reason why you are asking AND the same response I want the readers to get
:)
I also love creative writing!
I wasn't aware that you taught creative writing, very cool. What is the age group/grade, or are you teaching adults?
Ah yes, curiosity, will get you every time...grin.
Have you ever written 'Flash Fiction' Usually Flash are stories with a limited word count, say 500, 300 0r 100 words.
I liked writing flash fiction, it is really tests your skill as a writer.
Rudy
I love writing Flash Fiction and oh, yes, it does test your skills!
I teach from the ages of 10 to adults. Any abilities and levels
Writing has been my outlet for many years
I used to write in my Research and Methodology class while completing my Nursing degree.
The class was boring and my peers were bored, do I wrote Flash Fiction and passed it around to prevent them and myself from falling asleep
Lol
Cool! Yes, I've entered a couple of my 100 word flash stories. Did not win but placed in the top 10.
I had considered starting a website, way back when, on creative writing, with an emphasis on flash fiction, but I did not have the knowledge of how to really make it work until now...
Yeah, I havent written for a long time, not sure why, but am considering to journal...
Thanks for sharing a little about you, Simone!
Rudy
Yes the email I gave to WA is correct, but sometimes it goes to the sbcglobal.net email maybe I need to check with my computer expert on it to see what can be done. OK, I understand the prompt now, it is in your mind what you thinking about. OK, Clock it is time to exercise after that it is time for work, I can write in my journal or read in my book, I have lots of books to read, then it is time to go home I have my keys to the car and keys to my house, I need my keys to enter the house. not sure if this is what you want.
Is it?
Thanks, Rudy,
Yeah, check with your tech guy. They might find out why that is happening...
Re the prompt words.
It's not so literal...
Instead of looking at each word individually, look at all three words and try to put them into a sentence or two.
This is not a checklist...grin.
It is meant to help jog the memory. Now, if that helps to organize you, then that works.😀
I was using this as a writng example of how different topics might come up...
Write down any three words that come to mind and then write a sentence or two using all three words...
Does that help?

Rudy, what a fun challenge you have posed, so here goes.
I awoke with a start and looked at the clock. It was 6 am on a dismal wintery day. It had been snowing all night, it seems. I must get up and get ready to leave, despite the snowbound roads and freeways. I had promised my dying friend that I would return The Book today. I hoped I would not be too late. When I was up and ready, I grabbed the keys to my car and ventured out into the snow.
Thank you! That was nicely done, well imagined as I read this. Glad you enjoyed this!
