FREE!

We like free, right?

I know, some of you are cringing at the though of getting something for free, and dread the reality of those old thoughts that free doesn't mean it's any good.

Get over it...grin.

Yesterday, I spent hours going through my document folder (files from Windows XP, Windos 7 and Windows 10, yep, a LOT of files), I even have a PDF folder. That was the folder I was lost in, and found a few good things to use for my email subscribers.

Anyway, one of the PDFs, a free tools checklist from 2011, provided me with a free site that was a treasure trove of imformation. Like any good second-hand store, you gotta look around to find the gems, and I sure hit the jackpot!

For your viewing pleasure, I took the time to look at 7 or 8 free image wbsites to find out whether the links were still active, if the images were of quality, and to learn about their definition of free.

I have included whether there is any attribution needed, or limitations on use. For the most part, these are all free-to-use photographs, vectors, and graphics available to download. Only one requires an account to download images.

Here we go:

StockVault: https://www.stockvault.net/

Check out their categories page. (Note, this is not a responsive site.)

Here is one that may be of interest when you need a website template to use in your blog: https://www.stockvault.net/c/graphics/web-templates

You could spend all day here. Quality photographs, Great graphics, Vector patterns (although I must say that I really got spoiled at https://freewebheaders.com.)

Stockio: https://www.stockio.com/

For those of you who don’t have the time nor energy to learn how to create your own videos, or want to use a looped vido for a header background, then check out their video selection: https://www.stockio.com/free-videos/

Free Photo Bank: https://www.freephotobank.com/main.php

Please read their TOS: http://www.freephotobank.org/main.php?g2_view=html.HtmlPage

All images are FREE to use, yet, it is:

mandatory to :

- link to FreePhotoBank to any use for a website (a link has to be placed for each page which contains FreePhotoBank pictures)

- precise where pictures come from for each other type of use (pasted from TOS page)

I wasn’t too impressed with their images, the categories are limited, and the breakdown of each category does not provide accurate titles. Cat 1, cat 2, etc, although each subcategory will have numerous images within.

(Segue, Hey @JeffBrown, do you know what a Dromaderies animal is? This one is for you: http://www.freephotobank.org/v/animals1/dromadery1/)...grin.

On to the next…

Pixloger: https://pixloger.com/

They are very new, and don’t have many selections to choose from, maybe 100 total images from 8-10 cateories. Their TOS is a must read.

Free Stock Images: http://freephotocourse.com/free-images.html

Not so free in that you use watermarked images. You can contact them to use an image without one, if you so choose. Pretty to look at, though. On the bright side, they have a free photo course.

FreeRange: https://freerangestock.com/

You will need to create a free account to download images.(The other sites requested that you created an account registration,)

Beautiful images, categorized under the heading, hundreds of images to choose from.

Here’s what they say about licensing: https://freerangestock.com/licensing.php

Free Downloads:

https://www.1001freedownloads.com/

Public domain images, free to use for both commercial and personal purposes. For more info, see their FAQs: https://www.1001freedownloads.com/faqs

I have used plenty of images from this website, and I think they have a wide assortment of images to use.

________________________________

The images in the links provided will offer most of you the images you need for your next blog, whether it is for the article itself, or perhaps you want to add a background video, or image, header image or even the feature image of your blog post.

So, I have a question for you folks.

When you are searching for an image, what seems to be the most difficult image to find?

Be specific, for example, was it for a MMO website, niche based, Affiliate based, etc.

If I get enough resonses, I want to create an image download that is specific for website where finding the 'right' image is near impossible without having to take it yourself.

What is your criteria when looking for a specific target image to use as a header?

As an blog post insert?

Any other info you could provide about your quests to find the right image is appreciated.

Jeff🐫

One hump....I never knew the official name...grin.

Thought you might like that...grin.

Thanks Rudy. I don't usually have trouble finding what I want and I use Canva a lot to add text, etc., for featured images. Some great Free sites here - I shall definitely find them useful additions.

Excellent, Jen. There are 2 that I like the best out of the list here. Considering how old the initial source is, the ones selected for this post are still current, although I forgot to mention that the first one, StockVault, was last copyrighted in 2020. Considering the year we've had, that's not bad at all.

Have you created any Canva training tutorials?

Rudy

Yes, a couple of them: How to create a featured image for a blog - and How to Make Professional YouTube Thumbnails using Canva. They're both on my YouTube channel available via my Profile.

I haven't made any recent ones. Always seem to run out of time with blogging, community theater and golf - my time is often not my own.

Awesome, I'll go check it out!!

Rudy

I don't have trouble finding images but then I am married to a lifelong photographer who has all sorts of things I can use.

I always go to pixabay if my hubby doesn't have what I want.

Nice to have a source...grin. I take most of my own shots, and its nice to find others that inspire me, as well.

Rudy

Excellent, Rudy!
Thanks for the share.
